There was lots of news regarding the Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab in the last couple of days.

Samsung just officially announced that the Wi-Fi version of Galaxy Tab (GT-P1010) will be available through various retail stores and web-sites by April 10 and will receive a price tag of $349.99. It’s the same price the tab was ready for pre-order from Frys a few days ago.

The only difference from the Original Galaxy Tab is that this one does not have 3G capabilities. Other than that, it’s identical to the previously launched Galaxy Tab.

Anyone interested in this version now that has been officially announced?

New Galaxy Tab vs. iPad 2, What is your choice?

 News from International Business Times,

New Galaxy Tab vs. iPad 2, What is your choice?

March 24, 2011 10:40 PM EDT

The battle of the tablet market is becoming fierce.  Samsung has introduced its newest Galaxy Tab at the CTIA 2011, rolling out a 8.9" version and a 10.1" version to challenge iPad2.

The electronics-maker has put in considerable effort to take on the current reigning champion of the tablet market.

* Samsung wins in weight and slimness

Samsung has the edge in terms of hardware. The thinkness of Galaxy Tab is 0.2mm thinner than iPad 2 which is 8.6mm. Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch version is bigger than IPad 2's 9.7inch but still  lighter (595g) than 607g of iPad 2. Whether bigger or smaller, the screen size is of course up to personal preference.

The resolution of the Tab is higher however, 1280x800 versus ipad 2's 1024x768. Also, Galaxy Tab has 2 megapixel camera in front and 3 megapixel camera at the back, while iPad 2's front camera is 0.3 megapixel and 0.7 megapixel at the back.

* Apple's strength in app store

The strongest strength of Apple is the variety of apps that you can download. The Apple app store has 85,000 apps which is signficantly more than Android's market.

* Equivalent in price battle

It is hard to decide the winner in terms of price. Samsung has adjusted its price and made it lower than the iPad2 by $30 for its 8.9 inch (16GB $469, 32GB $569). Prices for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is same as the iPad 2.

Samsung has made some improvement in terms of pricing considering the 7 inch Galaxy Tab was more expensive than the iPad. However, Apple does have the headstart against its South-Korean rival, with its iPad 2 coming out March 2011. Since then, it has already sold millions, even crossing the 1 million mark on its first weekend. The company also enjoys a considerable lead in applications and developer support.

My choice?  Definitely both! =)
Seriously, i like a larger display. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch version is bigger than IPad 2's 9.7inch and still  lighter!  Also, the Galaxy tab resolution is better, and the camera is a plus.  Apps are of course important but it is subective.  In my case, I just use PC's to browse, to read ebooks, use basic office applications, watch internet videos, to blog, to make literature research, and to use FB! =)

So, I would choose Galaxy Tab 10.1!

SAMSUNG announced not one, but two tablets during their CTIA event; the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Both run on Android 3.0 Honeycomb with TouchWiz 4.0 user interface, feature a 1GHz dual-core CPU and are thinner than the iPad2. They boast a 3-megapixel auto-focus primary camera with 720p video recording, and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Flash Player 10.2 and Quickoffice HD editor comes preinstalled. The first model has an 8.9-inch screen with WXGA resolution, a 6000mAh battery, measures only 230.9x157.8x8.6mm and weighs just 470g.

Its big brother, the 10.1 measures 256.6x172.9x8.6mm, uses a PLS display – which is said offers even better image quality than IPS displays – and has a 6800mAh battery.

Both are set to launch this summer.

They are thinner than iPad2?!  That's great!  Size is a great factor for me including the weight.  Most importantly, the screen size [and quality].  The 'display' makes browsing, reading ebooks, creating and sharing anything better on a tablet than on a phone.

Having a healthy competition between manufacturers is of course a good thing especially for consumers...making  the entire world a user-friendly virtual world! =)
